Questions to ask when you need a new HVAC system.

Are you a first time home owner? Are you getting a new HVAC system for the first time? These things can be a little confusing. We know you want to get the right thing for your home so here a couple of questions you can ask heating and cooling companies before they install your new system. If you need a HVAC contractor in Carbondale, Illinois then call RSP Heating and Cooling. We will make sure you get the best quality HVAC system for your home

What size should I get for my home?

This depends on the size of your home. You also want to make sure that you don’t get one too big or too small. One that is too big will turn on and off too quick and make your home uneven temperatures. One that is too small won’t warm or cool your house properly either.Find a size that’s right in the middle and works for your home. Heating and cooling companies should be able to calculate the right size system for your home.

How efficient is the system?

Make sure you get an efficient system for your home. You don’t want a huge bill at the end of the month. An efficient system may cost more in the beginning but it will save you a lot more money in bills. Ask your HVAC contractor what the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) and AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings are. The higher the rating, the more efficient it will be. You will also want to check to see if it is Energy Star certified. That little blue star on the system means it will save you energy and money.

Will new ductwork need to be installed?

Sometimes old ductwork gets leaks and damages. If you are getting a new system, you might also need new ductwork. Be sure to ask heating and cooling companies before they start work. New ductwork can be costly so make sure you get an estimate of the cost before agreeing. However, If you do need new ductwork then you definitely want to get it replaced. Leaks can cause some serious damage to your home.

What thermostat should I get?

The thermostat is how you will control your new HVAC system. Get one that works best for your lifestyle. Some thermostats have energy saving settings that help you use the least amount of energy while still being comfortable in your home. There are also ones that connect to the WiFi and allow you to change the thermostat from anywhere. Great for when you’re on your way to vacation and forgot to turn the AC off full blast.
